I'm writing a children's book called 'Lessons From a Special Friend'. It's about some of the important things in life that dogs seem to know from day one but take some of us a long time to figure out. It's a poem and going to be accompanied with water colour illustrations. Work in progress obvioulsy but here are a few of the sketches so far.
Poem so far:
It seems to me few know from the start how to live a full life with joy in their heart
But I have learnt from a special friend the secrets of life to me she did lend
She taught me to be loyal to those I love best and never turn down an adventure or quest
When your heart is full and you can't help but smile, run roll romp dance with someone for a while
And when someone is feeling down when sorrow has snuck on their face with a frown, simply lay your head on them so sweet and listen quietly should they weep
Enjoy simple things like a long walk with a friend, and bask in the glory nature does lend
If wearyness is what you feel cuddle up rest your eyes, let your body heal
Trust your heart to lead the way and never forget the way you dance and play
If your dream remains hidden somewhere out of sight dig for this vision with all your might
Stay true to yourself don't ever pretend and always love yourself despite the latest trend
Love without question listen attently and treat everybody ever so gently...
...whether they are brown or white dark or light curly or straight, carrying some weight, short or really really tall, never underestimate those who crawl.
